Hatshepsut

JULIUS CAESAR had possibly more impact on his time than any other Roman.  Politically, Caesar took control of Rome's destiny, guiding it to become an empire that would  rule  the ancient world for another 500 years.  As a military leader, he is generally described as one of the greatest commanders in history.  This video looks at Roman society, politics and the civil wards during the First Century BCE. Caesar's family background, early life, marriages, ambition, military and political careers are studied.

At the Nuremberg Trials, ALBERT SPEER was convicted of 'war crimes'  and 'crimes against humanity' and sentenced  to 20 years' imprisonment. However, he has created much historical controversy, claiming  total ignorance of the excesses of the Nazi  regime while, at the same time, being one of the most influential men in the Third Reich.  Was he really the "Good Nazi" as he portrayed himself?

The reign of Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BCE) during Egypt's New Kingdom, has sparked debate throughout time.  Female kingship was not unprecedented in Egypt's history.  But her ascension to the throne while Regent to the young heir Thutmose lll, has been described as controversial.  To legitimise her claim to the throne, she emphasised her Divine Conception and Birth ,claiming the god Amun to be her father.

LEON TROTSKY is considered one of the most controversial revolutionary figures of his time.  Was he a practical revolutionary or a naive idealist?  On the practical side, he was the mastermind behind the Bolshevik seizure of power in 1917, and was totally ruthless during the ensuing Civil War.
